September 29 (Tues)
The Chelmsford Art Society features at a demonstration meeting, calligrapher, Mary W Hart. Her work combines calligraphy with collage and encaustic painting. The works incorporate elements of written texture and botanical forms.  Hart, a native of Pittsburgh, studied calligraphy at Carnegie Mellon University with Arnold Bank, a noted teacher. "It was a class I had to take for my Graphic Design degree," says Hart, "but it quickly became something I loved to do. Even 34 years later I am still finding new ways to use this skill."
In addition to practicing calligraphy, Hart teaches a number of classes in the area, most recently at Middlesex Community College, Cambridge Center for Adult Education and in the Applied Arts program at Wellesley College. There is currently a class going on at the Jenks Center in Winchester as well, proving it's never too late to learn calligraphy.
October 27, 2009 Deirdre McCullogh Grunwald - Watercolor
The Chelmsford Art Society presents Deirdre McCullough Grunwald a New England artist whose work appears in private and corporate collections.  She is a member of the New England Watercolor Society and The Cambridge Art Association.  Her paintings are shown regularly throughout New England.
Grunwald’s work is primarily a journey that explores ancient pattern and how it links to dream, contemporary abstraction and other cultures.

With reference to the linkage between ancient pattern and contemporary abstraction, Grunwald’s work is rooted in the believe that beyond the great exterior surface beauty of Celtic pattern there is built into its bedrock structure a foundation in sacred geometry that can generate contemporary abstract paintings.

Deirdre McCullough Grunwald will hold a watercolor workshop on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the Old Town Hall, 1 North Rd., Chelmsford, MA.  Bring your own paints or some will be provided.

Paula enjoyed a studio at Western Avenue for four years before she went on to opening her own shop, Spirit Rising, here in Chelmsford center, where she sold her art along with other uplifting gifts and motivational services. She recently closed the shop and is currently pursuing her dream of co-creating a "life resource center" in the Lowell highlands.
