My Colors by Helen Moriarty (c) 2004
I close my eyes and picture it,
A painting in my mind.
I look at the white canvas,
And hope for help Divine.
I plunge my large brush into a mix
Of cobalt blue and titanium white,
And cover one third of the canvas
With blue sky and clouds, puffy and bright.
Some dioxazine violet is always nice
For the misty purple mountains far away.
Then some yellow ochre and Hooker's green
For the mid ground I mix in the tray.
An alizarin house with a Payne's gray roof
With trees of raw umber, pthalo and green oxide.
Foreground, flowers of cadmium red and yellow orange,
Last, a gold frame to enclose each side.
Once again, I close my eyes to see the scene again.
Once again, I yearn to return to the place I've been before.
Then I go back to paint again, to add color here and there,
Then find I have added color to my life forever more.
